Modernizing Google Cloud’s public data pipelines for reliable hourly insights
Google Cloud’s public data program improved hourly data delivery, addressed legacy security gaps, and onboarded new datasets while sustaining daily production operations.
- Optimized the hourly trends pipeline for fresher, more reliable public data.
- Addressed legacy security vulnerabilities and compliance issues.
- Onboarded new datasets while supporting daily production workflows.

Overview
CLOUDSUFI modernized public-data pipelines, optimized hourly trend delivery and onboarded new datasets while managing daily production operations across more than 200 workflows.
The engagement combined pipeline engineering, investigation of undocumented legacy code, security remediation and compliance resolution. Coordination across engineering, compliance and data-partner teams aligned production changes with day-to-day operations.

Challenges
- A live public-data estate had to keep running while legacy components were investigated and changed.
- Parts of the inherited codebase were undocumented, increasing the effort and risk of remediation.
- Long-standing security vulnerabilities and compliance debt had accumulated across the platform.
- Daily operations had to support new datasets, incidents, and more than 200 production workflows while Engineering, Compliance, and Data Partner teams aligned on changes.
Modernization had to happen without interrupting a live data service
The public-data platform served users across regions and high-volume workloads. Modernization had to improve data freshness and resolve legacy security issues while daily production services continued.
The program faced four connected challenges:
• Maintaining reliable hourly delivery through the pipeline’s launch to general availability.
• Understanding undocumented legacy code before making production changes.
• Resolving security vulnerabilities and accumulated compliance debt.
• Operating and onboarding data across more than 200 daily workflows.
The modernization effort could not be separated from day-to-day service delivery. Engineering teams still had to monitor workflows, respond to incidents, and onboard datasets while investigating the inherited platform.
CLOUDSUFI investigated legacy architecture, behavior and dependencies before applying production changes. The team coordinated remediation and delivery responsibilities across engineering, compliance and data-partner teams.
The hourly pipeline reached general availability with an operating model that supported current data, predictable execution and ongoing production support.
CLOUDSUFI coordinated pipeline changes, legacy remediation and production support to improve the platform while maintaining daily operations.
The engagement covered:
• Data freshness and availability.
• Security and compliance.
• Production stability.
• Incident response and onboarding.
Three workstreams strengthened the public-data platform
CLOUDSUFI delivered three connected workstreams: pipeline engineering, security and compliance remediation, and production operations.
Modernization ran alongside active operational ownership. The team managed pipeline changes, downstream dependencies and daily schedules while supporting production services.
Pipeline engineering
CLOUDSUFI implemented and optimized the hourly trends pipeline for global consumption. The pipeline reached general availability with improved data freshness, efficiency and reliability.
Security remediation
CLOUDSUFI investigated undocumented legacy components and resolved security vulnerabilities that had accumulated over multiple years. The work reduced the platform’s vulnerability surface area and completed end-to-end compliance resolutions against the client’s standards.
Production operations
CLOUDSUFI maintained daily operations across more than 200 production workflows, including incident management and pipeline support. New dataset onboarding expanded the public catalog and data accessibility.
Understanding legacy architecture supported security and compliance remediation. Coordination across Engineering, Compliance, and Data Partner teams aligned changes with operating requirements, while production support continued alongside dataset expansion.
The work established a more modern operating foundation for public-data delivery. It combines a high-frequency launch with risk reduction, compliance work, and sustained production ownership.

Built for continuous operations and controlled change
CLOUDSUFI investigated legacy architecture and dependencies, applied security and compliance fixes, and maintained operational support throughout modernization.
The team paired controlled production changes with incident management and workflow monitoring, keeping operational ownership active as pipelines and datasets changed.
An hourly pipeline reached general availability
The high-frequency pipeline reached general availability. It makes hourly trend data available to users across regions and extends the public-data program with a more current signal.
More than 200 production workflows continued to run daily, supported by active incident management and new dataset onboarding.
Legacy security remediation reduced the platform’s vulnerability surface area, and completed compliance resolutions addressed the client’s requirements.
The work delivered three connected outcomes:
• Improved data freshness, efficiency, and reliability through Trends Hourly Pipeline optimization.
• Reduced vulnerability surface area through legacy security remediation and compliance resolutions.
• Expanded public data accessibility through new dataset onboarding.
CLOUDSUFI delivered hourly public-data access, resolved legacy security and compliance issues, and expanded the dataset catalog while sustaining daily production operations.
